Tigers to tangle with top ranked Kentucky

LSU's difficult stretch against three ranked teams comes to an end on Saturday when the Fighting Tiger mens basketball team hosts top ranked Kentucky. LSU has defended its home court against Southeastern Conference opponents, but no one outside of the Tigers locker room is expecting them to beat the 20-and-1 Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.

LSU enters the contest with a 12-and-8 overall record, 2-and-4 in the Southeastern Conference. The Tigers are better than last year's team that won just three conference games as they've shown glimpses that they can compete against the SEC's best.

Last Saturday, LSU went toe-to-toe against Florida in the 2nd half, but a mediocre 1st half resulted in a 76-64 loss. On Wednesday night, LSU nearly came from behind to beat Mississippi State on their home floor, before losing 76-71.

Freshman Anthony Hickey had 16 points in that game against the Bulldogs and he'll be more than excited to play the Wildcats. Hickey is a native of the Blue Grass state and he has something to prove, after the Wildcats didn't recruit him.

LSU sophomore guard Andre Stringer is also coming off a good game. He had 17 points against the Bulldogs as he came off the bench. Coach Trent Johnson has yet to decide if he'll have Stringer come off the bench again. Johnson was hoping to relax Stringer by taking him out of the starting line-up and it worked against Mississippi State.

Rebounding is what cost the Tigers a victory in Starkville. They were outrebounded by 20 and holding their own on the glass this Saturday will be a challenge. Kentucky leads the SEC in rebounding margin.

The Wildcats can start a line-up that features four players that are six-foot-seven or taller. They are led by six-foot-ten forward Anthony Davis. The freshman from Chicago has a chance to be the number one pick in the NBA draft in June. Davis can do just about everything. Even though he's a big guy, he has good touch that has him shooting 63% from the field.

Davis is averaging 13 points, 10 rebounds and nearly five blocked shots a game. Hornets' fans keep an eye on #23 on Saturday, he would be a nice get for the Bees in the June draft.
