Krewe deux Boobs parades to support the Rack Pack

There may not be football in New Orleans this weekend, but we will have cheerleaders.

In true New Orleans fashion, the Krewe deux Boobs will host its fourth annual fundraiser this weekend to help support the Rack Pack, Regional Breast Cancer Association.

"It's a second-line parade...a lot of dancing, just having fun while spreading the word about breast cancer and helping out women in our community," says Rack Pack President and self-proclaimed Head Mistress of the krewe, Yvonne Bruneau.

"This year's theme is 'Shake Your Pom-poms' and we'll be dressed as cheerleaders."

The Krewe will have a pre-party at Fahy's Irish Pub, 540 Burgundy Street, from 4 to 6 p.m. before hitting the street to the accompaniment of the Storyville Stompers.

Donations will be accepted at the pre-party and throughout the parade route at several local bars.

"From 6 to 8, we'll have the parade. We stop at different bars, have a drink and throw out beads," says Bruneau.

Rack Pack offers temporary financial support to women going through breast cancer to help them stay in their homes and take care of their families.

Bruneau started the organization in memory of her mother, Diana.

"When my mom was diagnosed, I found programs that would pay for medical bills, counseling and even wigs for low income women but I couldn't find any organizations to pay for rent or electric and that scared me" says Bruneau.

"If I wasn't able to work due to treatment, how would I pay the rent?  How long would the landlord take before kicking me out?  How long before Entergy shut my electric off?  I want to help women that are hard working but make just a little too much for the state to help. I don't want any woman to have to choose between becoming homeless or getting treatment."
