Twister reported in Plaquemines

Witnesses reported a funnel cloud this morning when a line of severe weather moved off the Louisiana coast near Venice.

"It was definitely a funnel cloud, we saw it," one man working in the area told WWL First News.  "Just south of Boothville"

He says at first it was over the water.

"We saw the funnel cloud.  We seen it out in the bay, and it was coming across," he described.  "We could see a lot of sticks and marsh flying in the air."

Then, he says, he and his nephew watched as it came onto land.

"We hauled butt to get to his house and we could see the damage behind us."

The National Weather Service reports, "Power lines down and a couple of sheds damaged along Highway 23 near Venice."

The line of storms also caused about 3,000 power outages across the state.
