Jim Henderson retiring from WWL-TV

Longtime Sports Director Jim Henderson announced today that he is retiring from his duties at WWL-TV, but will remain on as the play-by-play announcer for WWL Saints Radio.

"All good things must come to an end, and for me, that's my career here at Channel 4 that has encompassed nearly 34 years," Henderson wrote in an email to WWL colleagues.

He says his last TV duties will hopefully be a trip to Indianapolis.

"If the Saints go to the Super Bowl, I will make that my last assignment here. Otherwise it's time to turn the page on the next chapter of life," he said.

Henderson's iconic, emotional call of the winning field goal in the NFC Championship game remains a treasured memory for Saints fans.

Thankfully, the Who Dat Nation will continue to be able to enjoy the teamwork of Jim and Hokie Gajan on WWL Saints Radio.

"I would really like to continue my association with WWL Radio, continue to call the games... and perhaps increase my exposure on WWL Radio in the future," Henderson told WWL First News.  "I treasure the experience of being the play-by-play announcer for the Saints, and I treasure that association with WWL Radio, and I hope it continues for a long time."

Listen to Henderson talking with WWL's Dave Cohen:

Henderson says that he looks forward to more relaxation too.

"I've had this idea for quite some time that I would like to step away from my television duties in the offseason and have some time away to myself and my family."
