Ahead of the start of NFL free agency on March 12th the Saints have started the process to get under the 2013 salary cap.
The team has restructured the contract of middle linebacker Curtis Lofton.
The Saints saved $4 million dollars of cap space by diverting a roster bonus into a signing bonus. Lofton’s cap figure went from 7. 1 million in 2013 to 3.1 million with the new structure.
Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis and company still have a lot of work to do.
The Saints are projected to be some 15 to 17 million dollars over the 2013 cap.
Loomis is very good, however, at finding money where it doesn't seem to be obvious.
