Steve: Age just a number for All-Day Adrian Peterson

Once the Saints signed veteran free agent running back Adrian Peterson you could feel the excitement starting to build amongst the Who Dat Nation.  Then when organized team activities began, we heard from the players like Drew Brees and Kenny Vaccaro who gushed over Peterson’s ability and tireless worth ethic.

“It feels good. I’m 32 years old so outside the building and in the media a lot of people say I’m over the hill,” Peterson said.  “It feels good to hear the guys that are established see the work you’re putting in pay off.”

We will really get to see what the 6’2, 217lb running back is really capable of once the pads are put on for training camp, but he has looked agile and fresh at Saints OTAs.  A torn meniscus forced “AD” to miss 13 games last season in Minnesota, casting an even bigger shadow of doubt that he can bounce back from another knee injury.

"I'd be lying to you say it doesn't give you a chip. Especially, being a competitor," said Peterson about the doubters who think he’s washed up. "It's not my main focus. It's something that drives you a little bit.”

That drive will only help fuel the rest of the Saints running back room as well.  Mark Ingram is coming off his best season in New Orleans and now has to essentially prove he’s worthy of touches since he is battling a future hall of famer.  Add in 3rd round draft pick Alvin Kamara, and the Saints 3-headed RB monster looks lethal on paper. What is Peterson expecting for 2017?

“Obviously, the best passing team in the league. Just adding more to the run game. Putting yourself in a position to be more dominant in the run game. It just makes it hard for teams to matchup against. That’s something I’m looking forward to.”
