Saints fans everywhere are still reeling from the stunning last second 29-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Playoffs.  Count WWL's Bobby Hebert among those still coming to terms with the defeat.   The Cajun Cannon couldn't believe what he saw when Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs caught a last second prayer while watching Saints safety Marcus Williams completely miss his tackle attempt at Diggs.

"I said what what is Marcus Williams doing?  How can you duck your head right there," an exasperated Hebert asked.  "Why are you ducking your head!"

It was an unforgettable moment, one that likely will take the Saints a long time to move on from.  That's especially true for Williams who had an objectively great rookie campaign that including a big interception earlier in the second half against the Vikings that helped New Orleans make their comeback attempt.  However, all of the good he's done on the field this season will be overshadowed by his flailing attempt at a routine pass defense and tackle in prevent defense.

"I don't care Marcus Williams, you're not a rookie.  It's professional football," Hebert said.  "It's not at the beginning of the season.  He has enough skins on the wall that you've got to know that scenario and situation.  It's unacceptable."

Advancing to this point of the season in the NFL isn't easy.  It's taken the Saints four years to get back to the Divisional Round, and they were seconds away from playing in their first NFC Championship game since 2010.  Dreams of another Black & Gold Super Bowl run vanished as soon as Williams lunged to the ground and watched Diggs raced to the end zone behind him.

"I'm telling you right now, that was going to go down as the greatest comeback in Saints history, considering what you are playing for . . ." an obviously inconsolable Hebert said during the Point After show on WWL Radio.  "Look what you're playing for, to go to the NFC Championship."

It's going to be a long offseason for the Saints, and moving on from a devastating loss like this one won't be easy.  Yet the pieces are there for this team to keep ascending into one of the best teams in the NFL.  One moment doesn't define a franchise's legacy.  Nor does it define a player's career.  Marcus Williams will be an integral part of this young and exciting Saints defense.  The question is whether he, and the rest of the organization, can build off of the success of this season or if they'll let this collapse scuttle a promising future.
