Tom Petty has died at 66.

CBS News originally reported on Monday afternoon that the Los Angeles Police Department had confirmed the rocker's death; however, the LAPD responded, saying that they could not confirm Tom Petty had died, despite the earlier reports that the legend had passed away.

The rock legend was taken off life support on Monday after being found unconscious on Sunday night, according to multiple sources. Petty was reportedly found in full cardiac arrest and was rushed to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and immediately put on life support. The singer had no brain activity on Monday, and he had a "do not resuscitate" order in place.

Petty’s tour, which just wrapped at the Hollywood Bowl, featured a number of memorable moments, including a duet with Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, where the two performed the 1981 hit “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.”

As TMZ notes, Petty’s big break came with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 1978 classic, “Breakdown.”
