Saints Coach Sean Payton joined Bobby Hebert and Deke Bellavia for his weekly chat on the Saints Coaches Show Monday night and began by reviewing his team's 20-12 win over the Chicago Bears.

Payton stressed how important it was that the Saints opened strong on offense and built an early lead.

"Early in the game," Payton said, "that first possession was extremely important for us. We moved down the field and were going to kick a field goal. Then there's that penalty, the offsides. We take the penalty and we were able to convert that mistake and turn it into a touchdown. When you look at the way the Bears have been built this year, they've done a real good job when they've had a good start or a lead early.

"And credit our defense in the second half when we had a couple of those turnovers or short fields off the long kickoff returns."

Payton later turned his attention to this week's game, an NFC South divisional battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"It's a team that's had a lot of yardage, moved the ball extremely well," Payton said. "They've got, we feel like, a real good group of skill players, a good offensive line, and a quarterback who we've seen get real hot.

"Each game is different," Payton continued. "We felt going into the Chicago game that we were catching a team that had just won two in a row and was playing with confidence. So this will be a different opponent than the team we just saw. But in our league, each week you've got to go out there and execute. You've got to take care of the football and win those pivotal plays, those third-down snaps. This will be a tough challenge."

The Saints host the Buccaneers Sunday at noon on WWL with coverage starting at 8am. You can hear the full audio of Payton's interview by clicking the podcast link.
