Can't guard Mike: Saints wide reciever Mike Thomas looks primed to build on a fantastic rookie campaign judging by the training camp he's having thus far.  Thomas has perfected the slant route and dominated today's practice with several nice grabs.  (Check my twitter I shot a highlight or two of him we can add in the article).  Thomas is in his second season, and the Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert says he'll be the featured guy on 1st and 2nd down in this offense in the passing game "He's going to be the go to receiver. He can run a slant route and beat anyone regardless of position" Hebert said. Thomas abused several cornerback's in 1 on 1 drills and team drills today.  He's living up to his twitter handle @cantguardmike.

Frustrating: Saints Quarterback Drew Brees was in rare form in the Saints 2 minute drill offense. Late in the drill after a high snap and a good save from Brees in the shot gun, Brees threw his helmet off and spiked it to the ground after the play yelling at the offensive line.  "That's the most animated I've seen Drew in his time with the Saints during practice" said Hebert.  We weren't sure if Brees was frustrated with the offense or defense at the time that it happened but Sean Payton explained what the issue was after practice "That's his competative nature. We missed a couple of protection assignment, and it's happened a couple of times.  It wasn't about the height of the snap" Payton said. In that case we're curious as to who had the mental bust on the offensive line.

Solid run defense: The Saints defense was pretty solid against the run today in team drills.  The Saints offense had a hard time getting positive yards in the rushing attack and were stopped a few times for negative gains "That's a positive sign the defense is improving for the Saints when you can make plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage" explained Bobby Hebert. There were a couple of nice runs turned in by rookie Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram on the outside, but running up the middle against the Saints defense was hard to do today.

Rookie Spotlight:  Defensive End Alqaudin Muhammad has really asserted himself in the last week of practice, and in the game against Cleveland.  "He's gone from being a practice squad player to making a case to make the final roster" explained Color Analyst Deuce McAllister.  Muhammad registered three sacks today according to my notes and was constantly getting pressure in the preseason opener against the Browns.  He'll be a player to watch going forward.  He's a bit of a one dimensional pass rusher but once he learns some counter moves he could be really explosive off the edge.

Roll Call:  Rookie CB Marshon Lattimore missed practice again today, but appears like he's getting closer to getting back on the field sooner rather than later.  Lattimore was doing some mobility drills off to the side with some trainers today.  Here is the list of other players that did not practice WR Travin Dural (mild concussion) WR Jake Lampman (undisclosed) RB Travaris Cadet, I'm told nothing serious holding him out. CB Delvin Breaux (lower leg contusion), and rookie DE Trey Hendrickson (undisclosed).
