Following reports from the weekend, the Saints wrapped up their 10th OTA practice today without defensive tackle Nick Fairley, who is reportedly facing a career-threatening heard condition. Coach Sean Payton said he was hopeful yet guarded about Fairley's future.

"He's gotten two professional opinions.  The first one advised he shouldn't play again. The second opinion was a little different. He's already gotten a third opinion.  We're waiting on that opinion."

Fairley had this heart condition coming out of college as a rookie with the Lions, but apparently it's worsened.  The medical opinion that advises Fairley not to play football did not come from the Saints doctors.  Payton said the team hopes to have clarity about Fairley's future in a couple of weeks.

The Saints are trying to get as many experienced people as possible to look at his condition. Fairley was a little surprised at the news according Payton.  "The one report (examination) indicated some change (in his condition)  that was concerning."

The question becomes did the Saints know about the condition or give Fairley a physical before signing him to a four year contract this off-season.  Payton said the team gave him a physical before the contract, but the team doctor cleared him to see another specialist in Houston. The Saints say they have been and remain in contact with Nick Fairley.  Stay tuned, this will be the dominant story of the summer for the Saints until training camp.

Attendance:  Saints RB Adrian Peterson was not at the final OTA practice today, but Payton said he is fine and that it was more about managing his reps at practice.  Peterson did the attend the charity softball game last night and appeared fine. Mark Ingram returned to practice today after missing the preview two open to the media.  LB Dannell Ellerbe was also not spotted at practice. Safety Vonn Bell was held out of practice in the first two weeks but returned this week after shaking off a wrist injury.
