Sure it's just the preseason, but there is still plenty to talk about and breakdown in the Saints preseason loss to the Browns.

The Good:  The Saints starting defense didn't allow a first down in the first three series when the starters were in the game. I know the Browns offense wasn't spectacular and it's not Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers under center, but you take small victories when you get them with this defense. The pressure provided by DE Hau'oli Kikaha was a good sign he's nearly 100% back from the third ACL injury of his career.  Kikaha drew a holding penalty on what would have been a sack.

Rookie Report:  CB Marshon Lattimore and OT Ryan Ramczyk didn't play in the opener. RB Alvan Kamara did, however, and looked good, with 4 carries for 34 yards (8.8 yards per carry). "He's more powerful than I thought as a runner" said WWL's Saints color analyst Deuce McAllister. Defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad was impressive off the edge as a pass rusher. "He helped himself last night.  I thought he was probably a practice squad guy; but given what I saw last night, he's got a shot at the final roster," McAllister explained. Muhammad registered one sack against the Browns.

The Bad: CB Damian Swann gave up a deep scoring play in the passing game that proved to be the game winner, and he allowed three catches in his time on defense. Swann is in a serious battle for his roster spot, buried on the depth chart behind P.J Williams, Ken Crawley, and De'Vante Harris. He is running out of time to prove he should stick around.

The Ugly: The Saints have lost ten straight preseason games; and while it's just the preseason, it still matters for the confidence of a young team.  At some point, wins validate what is being taught; and they reward the hard work regardless if it doesn't matter in the final win/loss total.  The Saints are a young team, and any confidence boost would be tremendous team right now.  I don't like the their inability to close out games.  That has to get rectified this season, or you could be looking at another 7-9 finish.
