Red hot Florida State getting ready for LSU in Omaha

We get a scouting report from Tim Linafelt of

LSU baseball may be red hot, winning 16 consecutive games and sweeping their way thru the Regional and Super Regional rounds.  Their opening game opponent in the College World Series is nearly as hot.

Florida State (45-21) comes in having won 12 of their past 13 games, also winning their past 6 games at the Regionals and Super Regionals.  They were down to their final strike in the Regionals against Auburn but came back to win that game 8-7 and haven't looked back since.

Tim Linafelt who covers the team for the Seminole's webiste gave FSU glowing reviews during his scouting report on 'Double Coverage'.   "If LSU is the hottest team in the country, then Florida state has a case for the second hottest team," he said.

That wasn't always the case.  At one point this season it looked like the Seminoles wouldn't even make the NCAA tournament, let alone make it to Omaha.  That all changed in a late season series against highly ranked Louiville.

"All of the sudden Florida State was not only in the NCAA tournament but also hosting a regional," he remarked.  "It really has been a remarkable turnaround."

Although this season has been a roller coaster ride, Florida State has been the country's most consistent program over the last four decades, and it isn't even close.  Coach Mike Martin has led FSU to 40 consecutive seasons of 40+ wins, leading the nation.   The second longest streak in the country belongs to LSU and Louville at a comparitvely paltry six.

"That really puts things in perspective," Linafelt said.  "In an honest moment Mike Martin might say that this is the most satisfying of those years."

Two two programs will square off in Omaha in the opening round of the College World Series this Saturday at 7:00 p.m.  WWL Radio's special pregame coverage starts at 4:00 p.m. until first pitch.
