In life relationships matter a lot.  And sometimes relationships prove to be a key component in what a person does or even maybe where someone may go “That’s my boy (Kenny Vaccaro).  That’s my best friend.  Kenny told me that there had been some need on the D-Line.  Things started heating up, talks started happening and then the deal got done.”

New Saints Linebacker Alex Okafor became one of the newest members of the New Orleans Saints in somewhat by way of a close friend.  Okafor played college ball with Saints Safety Kenny Vaccaro and Vaccaro let Okafor know that the Saints were in need of some defensive help.

The former University of Texas Longhorn visited with Bobby Hebert and Deke Bellavia on Sports Talk soon after he signed his one year deal with the Saints.  Okafor agreed to a one-year deal with the Black and Gold as the Saints added the young pass rusher to the fold.  Okafor comes to New Orleans after making a bit of a splash in his first four seasons in the league.

Alex played four years for the Arizona Cardinals after being drafted in the 4th round (103rd) of the 2013 NFL Draft.  Okafor told Bobby and Deke that he’s healthy and ready to go after suffering an injury during 2016 season.  He suffered a torn Bicep Muscle.

“The league doesn’t wait on you.  You have to get healthy and get your body ready.  You have to be able to capitalize on opportunities and that’s what I want to do.”  You can listen to the entire interview with Alex Okafor by clicking below.

When asked what his strengths are, Okafor feels like he’s stout against the run.  “You would not be in this league unless you can play the run.  If a team can’t stop the run you’re not going to be effective.  I’ve proven I can stop the run.”

As he enters his fifth season in the NFL with a new team, the veteran LB wants to raise his game and help the Saints get back to their winning ways.  “They brought me in to fill a need on defense.  I want to help this team as much as I can.  The ultimate goal is to get to the Super Bowl and I’m going to work hard and do my part.”
