The Saints opened their 2017 mini-camp Tuesday at their team facility on Airline Drive.  The Black and Gold practice for a about two hours and thirty minutes in front of many fans that got their first glimpse of the Saints this season.

“I thought it was a good day of work.  The practice was a little longer and the Saints obviously want to improve on Special Teams,” said Saints Color Analyst Deuce McAllister.  Deuce said he thought that Saints WR Willie Snead and Rookie Running Back Alvin Kamara both had good days.”

The Saints spent a lot of time on Special Teams this afternoon.  New Orleans has a new Special Team Coordinator in former Louisiana prep star Brad Banta.  “I thought that Tight End Colby Fleener had the play of the day,” said the Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert.

Fleener, who had earlier dropped a pass in day one of mini-camp action, vindicated himself on the final play of practice.  Fleener got behind the Saints LB’s and hauled in a juggling reception from QB Drew Brees.

Earlier in the day Saints second year Safety Vonn Bell had a clear path at intercepting Brees, but the former Ohio State Buckeye did not come down with the football.  “The same things continue to plague the defense.  When the ball hits their (Defensive Backs) they have to come down with the ball,” Hebert said.  Bell and Saints LB Craig Robertson missed a shot at an interception also against Drew Brees.

But the defense did have their moments and one veteran player is having a good off-season once again.  “Right now it’s not even close.  Delvin Breaux is by far our (Saints) best Corner Back.  The four practices that I’ve seen he’s (Breaux) is the Saints best Corner Back.”

Bobby thinks that if Breaux can stay healthy the veteran CB is in for another good year for the Saints Defensive Backfield.  Both Bobby and Deuce again like the strides the Saints LB position has made in covering.

A.J. Klien look solid at practice and veteran LB Craig Robertson was solid in coverage but Robertson did miss a shot at an interception dropping a pass in the first Saints mini-camp practice.

The Saints will resume their mini-camp Wednesday with practice on Airline Drive.  Practice is scheduled from 11AM to 1:20PM.  Practice is open to the public (weather permitting) with the gates to practice opening at 10:15AM.
