Phase I of the Saints offseason workouts got underway today. This period is voluntary and consists of strength and conditioning work along with injured players getting rehab. Following the guidelines in the collective bargaining agreement, nothing on the field is permitted yet.
After 2 weeks, phase II allows on-field workouts with individual player instruction as well as team sessions conducted on a "separates" basis. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are allowed during this 3-week timeframe.
Phase III follows and teams can then conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practices, or "OTAs". Live contact is still not permitted but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are allowed. Those will run May 23-25, May 30-June 1 and June 5-8.
Mandatory minicamp is shortly after and runs June 13-15
