NOPD: One dead, multiple injured in separate shootings, 2 in custody

One person is dead and multiple others injured in a shooting in the St. Roch neighborhood, Sunday.  

It happened in the 1900 block of St.Roch Avenue where shots were fired, according to NOPD. 

25-year-old Charles Williams was taken into custody.  

Police say he shot three people on a porch, firing several shots at them from his vehicle and then fled.  Those victims are in stable condition.

Following that shooting, police say Williams then went to the 1400 block of North Derbigny, where a victim was shot in the face in the 1400 block of North Villere.  Police say Williams was identified as the suspect in that shooting.  The victim is currently in surgery, according to police.

Williams went to the 1700 block of Desire Parkway where he committed an armed carjacking and headed back to the first shooting location, in the 1900 block of St. Roch Avenue, where officers were still processing the scene.  Police report that Williams then fired more rounds at officers from his vehicle and one officer was grazed in the chest by a bullet. That officer is currently in good condition, according NOPD Chief Michael Harrison.

Officers pursued Williams from St. Roch Avenue to the 1000 block of North Carrollton Avenue where he struck another vehicle.  Williams' vehicle flipped over, where he got out of the vehicle armed.  He was arrested without incident.  

Harrison said that Williams is being charged for the shootings and multiple armed robberies.

The NOPD is also investigating a fatal shooting in the in the 2400 block of Elysian Fields Avenue in the Fifth District.

The incident occurred around 4:24 p.m.

An unidentified male was shot at while driving his vehicle.  He succumbed to his injuries and crashed into the rear of a vehicle occupied by two individuals.
 
Those individuals were transported to University Medical Center where they are in stable condition. 

Detectives from several units and districts across the city are working to determine whether this incident is related to other incidents that occurred today (Sunday).
