It could be the dream New Year's weekend for south Louisiana sports fans. A lot of Louisiana will be into the football scene in central Florida.

On New Year's Eve, the red-hot New Orleans Saints close out the season at Tampa. With their final seeding in the NFC playoffs possibly in play, fan interest should be high. The very next day, the LSU FIghting Tigers battle the Notre Dame Fighting Irish about an hour or so away at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Bob Bourg of Destination Management in Orlando says it could lead to a lot of Who Dats in the stands at Raymond James stadium.

"Absolutely, and plus, LSU fans are great fans that travel very well," he said. Bourg recalls a time when LSU was in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, which followed by the Saints at the Falcons. He says fans traveled for both games by the busload.

Bourg says a New Year's celebration plus the chance to get an extra football game in could prove irresistible.

"I think LSU fans who are going to go to the Citrus Bowl will now be able to go a day early," said Bourg. "Now the fans who can go to Tampa and enjoy the Saints game on Sunday, and then drive the hour, hour and a half over to Orlando and see the Citrus Bowl on Monday! It makes for a great weekend."
