It may still be 2017, but tricentennial events are kicking off in New Orleans this afternoon. The calendar is going to be full of them.

Today's event at the Orpheum Theater, sponsored in part by GNO Inc.,  is five hours of speakers talking about the three hundred year history of New Orleans. That sounds like a lot to cover.

"Well, to condense 300 years...is going to be a challenge," admits GNO Inc's Michael Hecht.

In the coming months, there will be numerous events, and Hecht says most won't require a ticket purchase.

"The vast majority of them...are going to be free and open to the public," said Hecht. "Then there are also going to be family events like fireworks and such going on."

The web site 2018nola.com has full details on the schedule of tricentennial events.
