It doesn't take 300 guesses to know why NOLA is hot for 2018 travel

New Orleans is the place to be in 2018: five major travel publications are recommending it, and there are 300 reasons why.

Kristian Sonnier with the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau says the city's tricentennial has raised our profile.

"Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, and a host of others, usually, around this time of year, talk about what destinations they think are hot," said Sonnier. "And I think all out communication with them last year and this year is paying off."

Sonnier says they have been in near constant contact with these publications, reminding them that 2018 is New Orleans' 300th birthday. Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Fodor's Travel, Frommer's Travel Guides, and the travel blog The Points Guy all list New Orleans as a must-visit city for 2018.

There are 135 tricentennial-themed events in all. Sonnier says that's by design, rather than putting all their eggs in one big 300th birthday party basket.

"What we want people to do is put New Orleans on their list of places to visit for the entire year, not just one day on the calendar," he explained.

So what happens after that, when the city is the less-catchy 301-years-old?

"Our strategy is to always keep a steady drum beat of reasons for people to come and visit New Orleans."
