The Tulane community is on alert a reported gang rape near the university's Uptown campus.

"The victims were sexually assaulted by six or seven unknown males," according to the NOPD Major Offense Log.

It happened in the early morning hours Sunday after the victims had reportedly been out drinking.

WWL TV says that NOPD confirmed that two women were in a bar on Broadway near campus and left at 2 a.m. after "reportedly consuming many alcoholic beverages."

Police told the TV station that a man the women didn't know walked them back to their apartment in the 6100 block of South Claiborne Avenue. Soon after they got home, several more men the women did not know also showed up at their home.

Investigators say all of the men raped the women.

The NOPD Special Victim's Unit is leading the case.

Tulane Police warned students to be aware of your surroundings after the incident.

The e-mail alert went out Sunday evening.

It informed students that two women had been sexually assaulted.
