Cold now, even colder to usher in 2018

With temperatures struggling to hit 50 degrees yesterday and today, that would be balmy compared to what is on the way.

"A strong front will move in and drop temps drastically," WWL TV Chief Meteorologist Carl Arredondo forecasts for next week.

He says that front will get here New Years Day on Monday and plunge temps into the 20s north of the lake for the first week of 2018, with low 30s on the Southshore.

A hard freeze is expected by Tuesday morning on the Northshore, with a light freeze south of the lake.

Before then we do get a warm up with Friday's high around 57, 61 Saturday and 62 Sunday before the front arrives with a 50% rain chance.

Here is the detailed forecast:

TODAY:
Cloudy and chilly with a 30% chance for light rain or drizzle.  Highs around 48.  Wind N 8-15 mph.

TONIGHT/FRIDAY MORNING:
Mostly cloudy and cold.  Lows north of the lake around 36 with frost, protect plants/pets/people and south of the lake around 40, protect pets/people.  Wind N/NE 6-12 mph.

FRIDAY:
Partly cloudy and cool.  Highs around 57.  Wind NE 5-10 mph.

SATURDAY:
Mostly clear and cool.  Cold lows north of the lake around 35 with frost, protect plants/pets/people and chilly south of the lake around 43, protect pets/people.  Highs around 61.

SUNDAY - NEW YEAR'S EVE DAY:
Morning fog possible, then cloudy and cool with a 50% chance for scattered showers or rain.  Lows in 40s.  Highs around 62.

SUNDAY EVENING - NEW YEAR'S EVE:
Cloudy with rain chances increasing.  Temps, 6pm 56 60%, 9pm 53 70% breezy, Midnight 43 70% Windy.

MONDAY - NEW YEAR'S DAY:
Cloudy, windy, and colder with a 20% chance for drizzle.  Cold lows north of lake around 34 and cold south of the like around 38, feeling like 20s on both sides of lake.  Highs around 41 feeling like 30s.

TUESDAY:
Clearing, breezy, and cold.  Lows north of lake around 24 with hard freeze, protect pipes/plants/pets/people and south of the lake around 30 with a light freeze, protect plants/pets/people.  Highs around 45, feeling like 30s.

WEDNESDAY:
Partly cloudy and cool.  Cold lows north of the lake around 26 with a hard freeze, protect pipes/plants/pets/people and cold south of the lake around 32 with a light freeze, protect plants/pets/people.  Highs around 55.
