The Louisiana SPCA is overflowing with big dogs.

And, the surplus means reduced adoption fees for the big breeds this weekend.

More than 90 percent of the adoptable dogs at the Louisiana SPCA are currently large breed dogs.

"We have Golden Retrievers, we have Labrador and Shepherd mixes, we have pit mixes. So there's really quite a variety to choose from," says spokeswoman Alicia Haefele.

And, she says, during their Big Dog Bonanza Saturday and Sunday, you can adopt a dog 40 lbs. and up for $25, or 60 lbs. and up for just $10.

Adoption fees include the dog's spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchip, pet insurance and a bag of food.

On any given day, the SPCA has 20 to 30 dogs to choose from.

Although the dogs are large breed animals, they're not necessarily old. Haefele says a year-old dog is still a puppy.

The Big Dog Bonanza is Jan. 20-21 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., at the Louisiana SPCA, 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd. in New Orleans.
