Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto says a 13-year-old male has been arrested for terrorizing in connection with a threat at Truman Middle School.

The shooting threat was distributed via social media.

The juvenile posted an image to his Instagram account that read "ima shoot up truman tm at 12:00 be there."

The post was brought to the attention of a JPSO deputy who acts as the school resource officer at Truman.  The juvenile was identified almost immediately and arrested at the school.

The juvenile was interviewed and a search conducted at his home. Investigators found nothing to indicate that a school shooting was being planned. The juvenile stated that he was only making a joke.

Investigators do not believe that the school was ever in danger, however the post caused a number of parents to pick their children up from school and forced a sense of panic into the school population.

Lopinto said this was the 5th arrest in Jefferson Parish in a week related to a threat of a school shooting.  He reiterated that the JPSO will take every reported instance seriously.

"The safety of our students is not and never will be a joking matter," said Lopinto. "Parents are rightfully concerned for the safety of their children, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that safety is maintained."
