Who dat? The Rams, that's who

The previously winless Rams dominated the first half and most of the third quarter against the New Orleans Saints.  St. Louis posted a 24 to 0 lead.

The Saints didn't score until there was just 1:21 left in the third quarter.

That's when Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins sacked the Rams QB, A.J. Feeley and stripped the ball.  New Orleans middle linebacker Jonanthan Vilma recovered the ball in the endzone.

The Saints were hoping that was the spark to turn the game around.  The Rams had kept steady pressure on Saints QB Drew Brees, limiting his effectiveness and sacking him four times in the first three quarters.

St. Louis also picked Brees off.

Meanwhile the Rams offense was breaking off big runs with Steven Jackson and gashing the Saints with timely passes.  Through three quarters, Jackson ran for 112 yards and Feeley had thrown for 149.

The Saints leading rusher in the first three quarters was Chris Ivory with a measley 12 yards.

The Saints opened the fourth quarter forcing the Rams to punt.  The Black and Gold offense started on their own 32 yard line after a 15 yard return by Darren Sproles.

The drive featured Drew Brees throwing a 25 yard pass to Marques Colston and three key runs by Pierre Thomas including the three yard TD gallop for the Saints' first offensive points.

That brought the Saints within 10 points, 14 to 24.

The New Orleans defense forced another punt with less than eight minutes to play in the game.

Sproles called for the fair catch, but Rams cover man Brian Kehl hit him anyway.  That penalty gave Brees and the Saints offense good field position at their own 33 yard line.

The Rams defense stood up, though, and forced a Saints three and out on three inclomplete passes.  St. Louis defensive end Chris Long supplied steady pressure, as he had throughout the game.

Down 10, the Saints didn't get the ball again until there was just 3:01 left on the clock.

Brees threw a pick six to Darian Stewart on the first play of the drive.  That was the nail in the coffin as the Rams went on to beat the Saints.

In the loss, the Saints QB kept his streak of  games with a touchdown alive.  He hit Lance Moore with six seconds left for a garbage time TD.  That made the score 31 - 21.  Brees has the third most consecutive games with a passing score in NFL history.

Brees threw two interceptions and was sacked six times in the game.

The Rams took a knee to end the game after a failed on-side kick attempt.
