Here’s what you need to know for Week 9 of the prep football season.
A showdown with playoff implications will be on tap for football fans in the River Parishes tonight as Franklinton hosts East Jefferson. The two teams have both made their mark in 2013 steamrolling competition and moving on, with a combined 15 wins and only one loss between them.
For Coach Shane Smith’s Franklinton Demons, it’s what we’ve come to expect from a team that has made deep playoff runs a near-yearly event. This year, Franklinton’s only loss came at the hands of 6-5A co-leader Covington, and their seven wins came at a combined tally of 262-49 for an average margin of victory of just under 30 ½ points a game.
As for the Warriors of East Jefferson, they’ve been even more impressive. Unbeaten on the year at 8-0, Coach Nick Saltaformaggio’s club has racked up 392 points and given up only 24 for an average margin of 46 points. Their defense has also posted six shutouts in eight games, so the Warriors not only put the ball in the end zone but keep their opponents out of it.
So with the 8-4A district title, important playoff-positioning implications, and possibly the first ever undefeated season in the history of East Jefferson football on the line, no other game this week offers the intrigue of this one, so of course Deke Bellavia and Allen Waddell will be on hand to bring it to you.
Of course there’s also some traditional rivalries being contested tonight. The Karr Cougars face off with the Roneagles of McDonogh #35, and Jesuit battles Brother Martin in a Catholic League brawl. And don’t forget about our online game of the week! Emile Gauchet and Tony D will have all the action as 7-1 East Ascension hosts 6-2 St. Amant.
