Vitter's campaign cash piling up for Gov. run

When it comes to campaign fund raising, it appears U.S. Senator David Vitter is going to be the candidate to catch in the Louisiana Governors race.

Vitter has reportedly raised $1.4 million just since announcing he's in the running. That would put his total up around $4 million.

Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne is a distant second with  $1.2 million.

Political Analyst and Gambit Editor Clancy Dubos has a theory on Vitter's growing warchest.

''I think what Vitter's goal is to do is to raise so much money, not necessarily to scare people out, but that he can drown out criticism which is bound to come,'' said Dubos.

Dubos-Interview:

Dubos also thinks there could be many more candidates announcing for Governor in the months ahead.  How about Democrat Mitch Landrieu?

''If Mitch Landrieu were to get in to the Governors race, I think he would be the leading Democrat,'' Dubos insisted.

He pointed out, however, that Landrieu did say he would complete his term as Mayor of New Orleans.  But with party pressure and other factors, things can change.
