Violent night across metro area

Several shootings across Orleans and Jefferson Parishes left one person dead and seven injured over a violent four-hour period Monday evening.

The five shooting incidents happened between 5:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Cops say two men were shot in the head Jefferson Parish in the 2000 block of Lincolnshire Drive around 5:45 p.m.  One of those men was pronounced dead on the scene and the other remains in critical condition in the hospital.

Another double shooting happened at about 8:00 p.m. in Metairie in the 2300 block of Caswell Lane.  Police say the man and woman injured in that shooting sustained "non-life-threatening" injuries.

Police are trying to determine if two separate shootings last night in New Orleans are related.  One victim was shot in the head and chest, another in the leg in a shooting in the Irish Channel around 8:30 p.m.  Both men were taken to the hospital, and their condition is unknown.

At about the same time as the Irish Channel shooting, another man was shot in the hand in the 2000 block of Second Street.  Investigators are working to determine if this shooting was related to the Irish Channel incident.

In yet another shooting, police say a woman was shot in the buttocks around 7:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of St. Andrew Street.  Cops say her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Anyone with information about any of these shootings is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
