As a camera was rolling, the massive Assumption Parish sinkhole swallowed a large clump of cypress recently. (Scroll down to view the video.)
The video shows the edge of the sinkhole collapsing as a "slough-in" Wednesday afternoon, a parish official told The Advocate. Assumption Parish Director of Homeland Security Jon Boudreaux shot the video as he was checking the site for "burps" and related tremors.
The sinkhole continues to grow since it began just over a year ago, after officials say Houston-based Texas Brine was drilling too close to the edge of a salt dome, causing the collapse and resulting sinkhole.
Officials say the 25-acre hole, which has led to evacuations of 350 nearby residents, is expected to continue to grow for years to come.
