Unrefunded CCC toll tag money transfers to state treasurer after today

Today is the last day for Crescent City Connection toll tag holders to get their account balances refunded -- from the Department of Transportation and Development. After today, the money will be handled by State Treasurer John Kennedy's office.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal signed House Bill 348 by Rep. Jeff Arnold (D-Algiers) which transfers the funds to the state treasurer's "unclaimed property" fund.

Kennedy says he plans on making that process easier than the current process, which requires account holders fill out an IRS W-9 form to get their money back.

"They (lawmakers) don't seem to have a lot of confidence in DoTD being able to return the money promptly and they have asked me to take on the responsibility, which I have agreed to do," Kennedy told WWL's Tommy Tucker last week.

"Right now, to get your toll money back, you practically got to mortgage your house and give away your first born," Kennedy joked. "In my opinion, they've made the process a little overly cumbersome."

Kennedy says he won't be able to start refunding the money until July 1, but he says once that day arrives, he plans to "rock'n'roll" and start returning money to the people.

The accounts can also be used for the LA-1 Leeville bridge, but if Crescent City Connection account holders haven't used their Geaux Pass account in the past year to cross that bridge, they need to contact DoTD.

"Geaux Pass or toll tag customers with their primary designation of the Crescent City Connection Bridge, who would like to maintain an account for use at La. 1 in Lafourche but have not utilized the tag on La. 1 in the past year, need to contact DOTD's customer service to request that their account be designated as a La. 1 account. After June 14, any funds not claimed by customers or not re-designated as La. 1 accounts will be transferred," reads a news release from DoTD.

To contact Geaux Pass customer service, account holders can call (866) 662-8987 or CLICK HERE to link to the Geaux Pass web site.
