Two murdered in New Orleans Friday night in separate shootings

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating two separate murders that occurred Friday night. The victims' names are being withheld pending notification of family members.

Officials say that at about 10:15 p.m. Friday, First District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 1500 block of North Prieur Street. Upon arrival officers found the victim, an 18-year-old New Orleans male, lying in the street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the face.

He was pronounced dead on scene.

Investigators believe the shooting may have stemmed from a physical altercation that occurred moments before the offense.

At about 10:40 p.m. Friday, Fifth District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 3100 block of Marais Street and found the victim, a 20-year-old New Orleans man, lying in the street, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the body. He was also pronounced dead on scene.

Currently, investigators are in the process of determining the identity of the person(s) responsible for both murders, as well as the motive for the second murder.

The victims� names are being withheld pending notification of family members.

Crimestoppers is offering up to a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person(s) responsible. Citizens with information regarding these crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or toll free at 1-877-903-STOP (7867).

Callers do not have to leave their name nor testify in court to receive the reward.
