Tropical Storm Arthur becomes first system of the season

Tropical Storm Arthur formed today off Florida's Atlantic coast.

"Arthur formed this morning, now the first named storm of the season," WWL TV Meteorologist Laura Buchtel said.  "It will be tracking up the mid-Atlantic."

She says the storm will not be any threat to the Gulf of Mexico.

"Tropical Storm Arthur is not a threat to any of the Gulf Coast, including Louisiana," according the Buchtel.  "It may threaten the Outer Banks of North Carolina by July 4th."

The meteorologist says the forecast calls for Arthur to be a strong tropical storm or minimal Hurricane by the 4th of July.
