Top stories 2013: #4 Tolls tossed on CCC bridge

Click here to go to story #3...

After a long fight and two elections on the issue, voters in 2013 decided to get rid of the tolls on the Crescent City Connection bridge.

Nearly 80% of voters voted against the toll renewal.

Voters in New Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines parishes decided once and for all that the tolls should end.

By fewer than 40 votes, the tolls seemed to win a 20 year extension in 2012, but a court challenge resulted in a judge throwing out the initial election results.

The new election was the result of evidence of electioneering and improper ballots.

When voters returned to the polls in 2013, little else was on the ballot and those opposing the tolls were far more motivated to cast ballots.

The tolls were forever removed from the bridge.
