How it happened: LSU catcher Ty Ross launched a three-run home run into the left field bleachers to snap a two-two tie in the 4th inning and the Tigers went on to win 14-3. LSU put the game away with an 8-run 7th inning. Christian Ibarra and Tyler Moore each had two-run hits in that inning.
LSU’s offense finally comes alive: After scoring six runs and collecting 15 hits in the first two games of the season, LSU scored 14 runs and had 14 hits on Sunday. The Tigers hit two home runs. Ross’ three-run shot was big and Jacoby Jones started the scoring with a solo home run in the 2nd inning.
Bregman has a big day: The freshman shortstop from New Mexico was 2-of-8 at the plate going into Sunday, but he had big game in the series finale. He was 3-for-3, with two walks and three runs scored.
Tigers have found a leadoff man: Great start to the season for sophomore center fielder Chris Sciambra. The Baton Rouge native had five hits, four walks and scored twice in the three-game series.
Solid defense: Just one error for the Tigers during the opening weekend of the season. The one error was charged to Jones, who lost the ball in the sun on a pop-up in shallow centerfield. It’s only been three games, but you can definitely tell the Tigers athleticism in the field is much better than last season.
Up next: LSU plays its first midweek game on Tuesday as they host Lamar. The Cardinals were picked to finish in 6th place in the Southland. But they’ve started the season 4-and-0 after sweeping Northern Kentucky.
