Tiger football players in trouble?

A couple of prominent players for the LSU football team could be in NCAA trouble. A star running back and defensive lineman appeared in a video promoting a former teammate.

According to TigerRag.com, the players appeared in a video that promoted a party being thrown by a Baton Rouge nightclub, to celebrate the release of a recording by former LSU football star Tyrann Mathieu's music group.

"There were some promotional videos for this party which Spencer Ware and Anthony Johnson both appeared in," said TigerRag.com editor Cody Worsham.  "That could be a possible violation of NCAA bylaw 12.5.2.1."

NCAA rules forbid student athletes from recommending or promoting any commercial product or service. Worsham says the problem is that modern social media could put a lot of athletes in jeopardy without them knowing it.

"The bylaw's so vague, anything as much as Russell Shepard tweeting, 'I love Five Guys Burgers, I just had a burger from Five Guys, it was delicious,' I mean, technically, to the letter of the law, that could be a violation," Worsham said.  "The NCAA needs to clean up some of this stuff."

NCAA officials have not answered requests to comment.
