It's getting down to crunch time for Americans who don't currently have health insurance. The first Obamacare deadline is a week from today.
In Louisiana the numbers put the state near the back of the pack. Dr. Renard Murray with the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare services say there needs to be a late surge in enrollment.
''We've got well over 100,000 who have signed up but well over 800.000 are eligible,'' said Murray.
Under the Affordable care act, all Americans must have health insurance or face a 95 dollar fine but he says people shouldn't be intimidated.
''We're finding out that some of the premiums they're paying could be even less than the penalty.''
Murray says if you would like to speak to someone about purchasing a policy through the federal health insurance marketplace, you can call (800) 318-2596 and the web site is healthcare.gov to choose your policy.
Murray says it's important to have a policy in place by March 31 or be subject to a fine.
