The Mystic Krewe of Nyx taps Spicer as grand marshal
Dave Cohen Reporting
Local Chef Susan Spicer will reign as grand marshal for the all female Mystic Krewe of Nyx.
"Spicer, an iconic New Orleans Chef, and owner of Bayona and Mondo restaurants in the Greater New Orleans area, is the perfect Grand Marshall to lead the 1230 members of Nyx down the traditional Uptown route," Captain Julie Lea said in a news release. "We thought she would be a perfect fit as a local celebrity doing wonderful things in New Orleans."
This is the krewe's third parade. It rolls February 26, 2014 at 7:00pm.
The news release says, "The Mystic Krewe of Nyx began as a female Mardi Gras Krewe which wanted an environment where all women were welcome. The Krewe of Nyx believes all women deserve to be adored, respected, and allowed to let their inner goddess shine through. The krewe's signature throw, the hand decorated purse, has become a coveted Mardi Gras treasure."
The krewe released the following information about Spicer:
In 2010 Susan was inducted into James Beard's "Who's Who of Food and Beverage in America" and in 2007, Susan's first cookbook "Crescent City Cooking" was published, and awarded the 'Best New Cookbook' by New Orleans Magazine. She regularly contributes her talents to numerous charity events, such as co-chairing the New Orleans Chapter of Share Our Strength's annual "Taste of the Nation" for more than 15 years and has represented New Orleans at the Super Bowl hunger-relief fundraiser "Taste of the NFL".
