Steve: Saints rookie profiles - Todd Davis
Linebacker Todd Davis was a late addition to the Saints roster after the team waived injured cornerback AJ Davis near the end of June. Even swap, Davis for Davis.
The LB comes from Sacramento State and totaled 351 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 30 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three interceptions and one blocked kick in four seasons.
As a senior, he notched 131 tackles and five sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions. He stands 6-foot-1, 230 pounder and played middle as well as outside linebacker for the Hornets.
Some scouting reports call Davis tough and aggressive, while always going hard after the action. He plays with good lean, pad level, and flies around the ball; willing to sacrifice his body to make plays.
Davis’ downfall is his lack of quickness and speed. The 6-foot-0, 242 pound LB registered a 4.78 40-yard dash time at Sacramento State’s pro day.
If Davis can find an NFL home it will likely be as a reserve since he is a one-dimensional run defender.
