Everybody... and I mean everybody I know is picking the New York Giants on Sunday, and I get it.
At quarterback, Eli Manning is playing his best football right now. He is totally in control and has great confidence. The Giants wide receivers also have advantages over a New England secondary that's been burned constantly throughout the season.
And then there's the play of the defensive lines. Where the Patriots have two good pass rushers in Mark Anderson and Rob Ninkovich, the G-Men have four. And the Giants best rushing D linemen are often all on the field at the same time.
When you look at this game in terms of talented players, the Giants have more of them on the starting 22 by comparison.
So why do I think New England will win Super XLVI? Honestly, something just doesn't feel right.
The only talk about the Pats has been about Rob Gronkowki's ankle. Granted the tight end is a big part of their offense, but there are still plenty of other guys that can find the end zone for them.
Ok, first off there's Tom Brady. He is coming off perhaps his worst playoff game of his career vs. Baltimore in the AFC championship. There is no way we will see a second game like that from "Tom Terrific."
Secondly, as the Rolling Stones sing... time is on their side, yes it is. If you give Bill Belichick all this extra time to prepare, he will find a way to maximize his talent and minimize yours.
Then there is the biggest stat of them all. Turnovers... and the Pats just don't cough up the rock. Now, NY is pretty damn good to at a +7 on the year, but New England was a +17.
Finally, there's the Pats' offensive line. All week, all they have heard about is the ability of the Giants defensive line. I expect the New England o-line to respond with a solid game.
When you add in an advantage on special teams, I see the Patriots winning two of the three battles and ultimately hoisting the Lombardi.
PREDICTION: New England Patriots 31, New York Giants 27
