St. Tammany Sheriff's Office looking for missing Alabama woman

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office is searching for a missing woman from Alabama who was traveling with a man who threatened to commit suicide Saturday.

Deputies responded to a call of a man with a gun at a gas station near the Highway 1077 exit on I-12. Over the next several hours, they were engaged in a stand-off with the man, identified as Johnathon Nall from Mobile. Nall threatened to commit suicide, but never threatened anyone else.

Nall was taken into custody after deputies fired a less-than-lethal round (bean bag) at him, striking him in the chest. He had no significant injuries from the bean bag, but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, where he remains under an order of protective custody.

Deputies recovered Nall's 1999 red Jeep Grand Cherokee with a temporary dealer license, in a subdivision near the gas station.

They also discovered that Nall was traveling from Mobile to Texas with his girlfriend, 26-year-old Melinda Denny, also from the Mobile area.

Much earlier Saturday morning, the Sheriff's office received a call from Nall's mother in Alabama who asked that deputies check on the whereabouts of Nall and Denny, as they were said to be in a parking lot on Highway 21 and needed money for gas.

Responding deputies made contact with the two and both subjects reported they were okay. A weapon was found in the vehicle, with no ammunition, and a routine background check revealed no criminal history on either, so deputies let the two continue their trip.

No additional contact was made with the pair until Nall was seen Saturday morning at the gas station.

Denny has not yet been located, and deputies are searching the area for the woman.

Anyone who might have seen the vehicle early Saturday morning along the I-12 area, or who might have information about Denny's whereabouts, is asked to call 911.

Foul play has not been ruled out in this case.
