The New Orleans metro area this morning recorded its sixth motorcycle fatality in a week.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand reports a 4th of July accident involving a motorcycle and a pick-up truck in Marrero took the life of the 21-year-old motorcyclist.
At 8:10 a.m., traffic fatality Sgt. George Gutierrez responded to the accident at the intersection of Nicholson Place and 4th Street.
Sgt. Gutierrez's investigation revealed that Renis M. Waters, III, of 501 3rd St. in Westwego was riding his Honda motorcycle westbound on 4th Street approaching the intersection of Nicholson Place when he struck the pick-up. Waters was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the Ford F-150, a 29-year-old man from Westwego, was turning Westbound from Nicholson Place on to 4th St. Street when the motorcycle struck the driver's side of his vehicle.
Witnesses say the cyclist was riding at a high rate of speed on the rear wheel just before the motorcycle struck the truck.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the pick-up. The Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office will be consulted in this matter.
