We are now six month away from the upcoming Senate race.
Political analyst Pearson Cross says this pre-race mode where the candidates Incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu and Republican Congressman Bill Cassidy are raising money and solidifying their messages before peak campaign time.
"There's a step increased look at this race over the summer and its going to really come into a peak in July, August, September as we get into there," Cross says.
Cross says Landrieu isn't taking Cassidy lightly. He says she is going to have to work hard like she has in her past three elections to get reelected.
"Most people have it as a toss up. A couple people have it a leaning the republican way, a couple people have it as leaning the Landrieu way. So this is certainly not a walk in for the incumbent," Cross says.
Cross says Cassidy needs to continue to get his name out to Louisiana voters. He says most people know Landrieu's name so Cassidy has to step up his game so the public can associate him with his message.
"Right now he suffers from a severe name recognition lack compared to Landrieu who is know, as well as any politician in Louisiana right now," Cross says.
