I am a Christian of the Catholic denomination. The Lord Jesus does not put judgement in my opinion on innocent Children and Teachers because of the sins of others. In Genesis Ch. 18, Abraham intercedes for Sodom the last time he intercedes asking the Lord if they were ten righteous there would he spare the people, and the LORD said he would, but as the story goes there was not even ten, so Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed because of their grave sin. There are a lot more than righteous just at that school. Look at all the innocent children and teachers.

The Lord Jesus also said, Take the plank out of your own eye first before you attempt to take the speck out of your brother's eye. Also, let he who is without sin be the first to cast the Stone.

Look at all the Sins nationwide, if God were so, you would see a lot more national disasters nation wide.

Also read Job, The Lord gave the Devil permission to bring tragedy to Job's life. People tend to see evil and blame it on God when the source of evil is the Devil not God, who is loving and merciful. There is evil in this world, but the grace of God far surpasses the evil.

Who says evangelicals are blaming God? We blame ourselves. I am not even going to read the rest of your blog simply because your first sentence is so erroneous. It's a shame that you have to suggest there is more than one God. What scripture are you currently reading Scoot? None? Thought so.

God doesn't cause tragedies nor does God prevent them. He has given that responsibility to us.

Invent a God. Then when something significant happens like this shooting or a hurricane or earthquake, claim that God did it for a reason to benefits your personal, political or religious agenda. It's easy and fun! And there are so many simple gullible people who believe in a God and all of the nonsense that goes with it.

Anyone that blames God for the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut clearly doesn't read their Bible or have much common sense. Mike Huckabee said it best (paraphrasing here)in that Americans have done their best to take God out of the equation, yet want Him back when things go wrong. How would you feel if your children only called you when they wanted/needed something? Think how God must feel. Our nation's morals are undoubtedly at an all-time low, and unless our nation turns back to God, things aren't getting better anytime soon.

I really enjoy it when people who don't own, read, study God's word have all of these opinions. It's like me talking about thermodynamics, or physics. On the flip side, I'm reading and studying Isaiah 13 at the moment. Isaiah is getting ready to talk about the destruction of Babylon. However what is interesting is that Babylon at the time of the writing was an irrelevant city. In over 100 years later was when Babylon became a world power. Isaiah was describing the destruction of an empire several hundred years before it happened. Of course Scoot doesn't know this because the Catholic church doesn't teach the Bible. No offense to Catholics with strong faith, but Scoot and Tommy are both Catholic and they don't have a clue about much about what the Bible says. They are wrong quite often on endorsing sin, and that's plain ignorance on their part. I do like those guys, but until they know what God says, they probably shouldn't be stirring up controversy over things they don't know much about.

Thank you for enlightening me! I have long respected and admired James Dobson for his "Focus on the Family" pieces. I am disappointed to learn that he is blaming God for the murders of the children at Sandy Hook. I cannot even stomach the idea that these atrocious acts of one disturbed man were sent from God to punish the state for legalizing same sex marriages. I too do not worship that God. I also thank you for using the number 27 when you refer to the victims of the murder. I feel that most of the media has somehow managed to omit his mother in their reporting. She was certainly his first victim that day. I also thank you for your words about God having a plan for each of us. I have gone through some very difficult times recently, and have made it by constantly repeating the words from the Bible, "Be still and know that I am God." It is truly difficult to "be still" when all we want is the answers to our questions of "Why" and "What does God have planned for us now?" You have put into words many of my feelings. Thank you!

If you profess a belief in an all-knowing, all-powerful supernatural god you have to accept that he/she/it created the evil and suffering that occurs. It is only logical that such an omnipotent deity must have planned this massacre that horrified us all. There will be those who blame free will, our "sinful" nature or the Devil but in the end this mighty god has to take responsibility or admit that it is not all-powerful. Epicurus nailed this line of religious belief a long time ago. “Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”

According to a rock found in the ruins of ancient Mayan civilization, scientist determined that today is the end of the world as we know it. But my thoughts are on a more realistic event, Newtown CT. One week ago today countless lives were suddenly thrown into a devastation that no Hollywood movie could, nor should ever, dramatize. Well for those Fathers, Mothers, Spouses Brothers, Sisters, Grandparents and numerous family and friends their world did shatter to pieces. As I bowed my head for a national time of silence for the victims of Newtown, CT. The bells across our nation began to tone 26 times for the 20 children and 6 heroic adults of Sandy Hook Elementary School. Although I was pleased to see President Obama and Governor Dannel Malloy of CT asking for prayers and quoting the Holy Bible, proving that in the hardest of times, when man and government fail, our only hope is in our God. Prayers and the Bible where once again in our schools and government. But before the tears and blood have been wiped, the blame, spins and agendas have already hit the airways of our media. Blaming political parties, inanimate objects (guns), video games, laws and lack of more laws, regulations and even God. I will leave most of these debates to persons smarter then me and pray they will have wisdom in looking for a real solutions to keep this horrible tragedy from happening again. But I will point out the foolishness and ignorance of trying to blame God for the evils of our world. This evil has come from man's own heart, not God. God created the earth and it was very good. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31 NKJV) What God gave man was a wonderful earth, free from sin, sickness and death. It had everything for all creation to live in peace and eternally. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:28 NKJV) God gave it all to man to rule over the earth, He also gave man free will to choose Life or Death. Man choose to do it his own way and death. To this day we still are doing it our own way and the end result is always death. Man and man's religion will AWAYS miserably fail. Despite of man's evil, God sent a way of salvation, a way back to what God always had for man since the beginning and yes, He has given you and me a choice. Once again He asks you to choose Life or Death. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. “But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” (John 3:16-21 NKJV) God did not send a religion, He sent His only begotten Son Jesus. He didn't send a package of rules, laws, do's and don'ts, He sent what He loved most, His Son Jesus. We rejected His message of love and killed His Son Jesus, giving God all the reason to judge and destroy mankind, just as you and I would of, if our child had been abused, tortured and cruelly killed. Instead God turned our wicked deed into a resurrection victory for all who seek the way, the truth and life. I hope that in this Christmas season we will look at the greatest gift we have ever received, love and a blessed hope of a Savior that came to redeem us not condemn us. May the Bells Ring once again, not in mourning, but in the Joys and gratitude to our Creator and God that loves us and gave us a Hope and a Future in His Son our Savior Jesus the Christ. My prayers are for all people, of all faiths, that the healing peace of our Lord Jesus Christ will comfort them and join us to defeat evil with Good, Peace, Hope and the greatest is LOVE! No mainstream scientist ever stated or believed the Mayan foretelling the end of the world but if it helps you write a load of fictitious rubbish then just go ahead and continue with your make believe world!!
