Saints trade up to get receiver
The New Orleans Saints traded up to the #20 spot in the NFL draft. The Black and Gold swapped picks with Arizona and game the Cardinals their 3rd round pick to make the jump.
The Saints used the pick to take Brandin Cooks, wide receiver from Oregon State.
The Saints had been slated to draft seven spots later at #27.
Cooks is a speedy pass catcher with the ability to make very sharp turns and break away from defenders.
At the NFL Combine, Cooks ran the 40 yard dash in 4.31 seconds, he benched 225 pounds 16 times and jumped 10 feet in the broad jump.
Cooks is from Stockton, California. He was a three-sport start at Lincoln High School. He played football, basketball and track as a sprinter.
His nickname is "Sonic Boom."
He racked up 67 catches for 1,151 receiving yards in 2012, an average of 17.2 yards. He grabbed 128 balls for 1,730 yards in 2013, averaging 13.5 yards per catch. He also returned punts last season.
Some analysts say he "lacks size" at 5' 10" and 186 pounds.
