The New Orleans Saints are flying to San Francisco today. Saturday they play the 49ers, with the winner going to the NFC Championship.
The saints are a three-and-a-half point road favorite. It is just the second time since 1982 the road team is favored in a divisional playoff game.
WWL NFL Analyst Mike Detillier says the odds makers give the Saints the edge because they are playing so well.
"This is a red hot football team at the present time the way they are scoring and you can understand why that point spread is the way it is because of the fact they've been the complete offensive team," Detillier explained.
He also points out that the Saints have played very well on the road recently.
"The Saints have been such a good road team... the last three years this football club has been 18 and 6 on the road. That's the best road record in the National Football League," Detillier insists. "(This season) they're averaging over 27 points per game on the road."
Detillier also says the Saints are battle tested.
"They're the favorites in this football game because they have walked down that aisle before," the NFL Analyst said.
The Saints have played 7 playoff games over the past six years (including the Super Bowl), while this will be the 49ers first postseason appearance in nearly a decade. Their last playoff game was in January of 2003. The Saints are 5 and 2 under Sean Payton in the postseason. The Saints have never, however, won a postseason game on an opposing team's field.
