Saints announce Manning, Jackson, Roaf to be first 'Ring of Honor' inductees

The New Orleans Saints today announced who will be the first inductees into the Saints "ring of honor."  And it should come as no surprise that the first three players to be so honored are two Pro Football Hall of Famers and the Saints' first star player.  Archie Manning, Rickey Jackson and Willie Roaf will be recognized as the introductory class November 10.

Drafted with the second overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft, Manning went on to set most Saints passing records, that stood for years.  He was selected to two Pro Bowls and in 1978 was voted the Sporting News' NFC Most Valuable Player.

Jackson was a founding member of the vaunted "Dome Patrol" linebackers corps that terrorized NFL offenses in the 1980s and '90s.  He finished his NFL career with 128 sacks, not counting the eight he unofficially got in his rookie season of 1981, before the NFL began keeping records on that statistic.  Jackson was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010.

Roaf, a dominating offensive tackle, was selected to eleven Pro Bowls in his 13-year career.  Roaf became an Pro Football Hall of Fame member in 2012.

The three will be inducted in to the Saints Ring of Honor November 10, during halftime of the game versus Dallas.
