We’re taking a look at one SEC team a day, leading off to the open of the season. We’l go through the SEC East first, starting with Georgia.
In the East, most folks are going with South Carolina but I like the UGA Dogs! I still think that Mark Richt is a very good coach, and this year he will turn things around in Athens. Many feel that UGA’s young quarterback Aaron Murray is the best pure quarterback in the conference.
The big question is how will Murray adapt to life without receiver AJ Green? Answer: Enter receiver Tavarres King. King is a deep threat that can help the Bulldogs Offense stretch the field. That should mean that tight end Orson Charles should have a breakout season. Charles was a high school teammate of Murray and the two have been expanding on their relationship on the field at the college level.
The UGA defense gets a big boost by the return of defensive back Brandon Boykin. Boykin led the Bulldogs defense in their Liberty Bowl loss last year, but he is poised to become one of the best players in SEC this season.
Boykin has returned three kickoffs off 100 yards or more. Three of the Bulldogs defensive backs are returning starters this season. The Georgia schedule sets up nicely for the Bulldogs in 2011. Simply put, UGA needs to come out of the gates red hot.
UGA opens with highly-touted and top-ten foe Boise State in the Georgia Dome, followed by their home opener vs South Carolina, another highly thought of team. A 2-0 start could land these Dogs in the Top 15…Then look out the rest of the season!
