Running game will be ''eating up yards''

 Ground attack:
Running backs Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles have received most of the headlines in training camp for eye popping runs, and then you have the consistent running of Pierre Thomas. He’s not flashy, but he just gets four yards here, four yards there, and he is active in the passing game. Thomas is anxious to see the three players in action.  “You’re going to see three guys out there eating up yards, I can tell you that,” #23 said. Thomas added the running back group has worked hard on improving a rushing attack that ranked 28th in the NFL last season.   The fourth guy, figures to be Chris Ivory who is sideline after a foot injury and  sports hernia surgery.
Full back battle:
During Friday night’s preseason contest against San Francisco, I’m going to keep a close eye on the position battle at fullback between Jed Collins and Korey Hall. Both have been alternating with the first team offense and are the frontrunners to replace veteran Heath Evans.   “Jed’s doing a real good job, he and Korey are competing, they’re both physical , they know what to do. I would say both got a pretty good battle going on there,” Coach Sean Payton said.
Transactions and Injuries:
Wide receiver Marques Colston (knee) and offensive tackle Jon Stinchcomb (knee) both missed practice. Running back Chris Ivory is out 3 to 6 weeks after sports hernia surgery.   The Saints waived veteran linebacker Danny Clark and signed offensive tackle Jordan Black.
Wednesday’s practice was one of the hottest of camp, at least in my opinion.   Payton slowed the pace of practice down a bit and allowed for more water breaks. Payton also cut practice short by about 15 minutes.   This coach has an uncanny ability to know what button to push and when to push it.   In 15 minutes, in this heat, how much better can his team get? He would rather keep them healthy and fresh.

Play to win:
I love this team’s eagerness to compete, I know I sound like a homer, but these players genuinely love this game. They like playing football, and love the atmosphere in the Superdome. I overheard several veterans talking to rookies about what the scene will be like in the Dome on Friday night.   And while noting the atmosphere will be wild, they also told the first year guys they haven’t seen anything yet until the regular season opens in the Superdome.
