A BCS title game, NCAA men's Final Four, a great Jazz Fest lineup, Mardi Gras, a rise in eco-tourism as folks visit Louisiana's great outdoors: Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne says all these things brought more than 26 million people here last year.
"More than 26.3 million people visited Louisiana in 2012, resulting in a $10.7 billion impact on our state in visitor spending," he said.
Dardenne said the variety Louisiana offers is a big reason so many people are coming.
"Louisiana has so many passions to pick from. We know our many passions for food and for music, outdoor life, recreational life, festival, sports and Louisianans love their passions and we love to share those passions," said Dardenne.
The lt. gov. also said more visitors are doing their research before they come visit, citing a 62 percent increase in hits to the state's officials tourism info web site, louisianatravel.com.
