Record jobs in Louisiana

New figures suggest Louisiana will soon have more jobs that ever before.

LSU Economist Dr. Loren Scott collaborated on the report out today from the Ourso College of Business at LSU.

He says business expansions, new industries and high tech companies moving to the state will account for about 70,000 new jobs within the next two years.

"We think that sometime in 2015, the state, for the first time in its history, will have two million people employed," Scott predicted.

He says the Baton Rouge area's rate of job growth is expected to more than double in 2014 and 2015, adding about 31,000 jobs yearly. Scott says Louisiana was already enjoying healthy job growth - even during the recession.

He says New Orleans should see about 11,000 new jobs over the next two years.

Scott says job growth is forecast for all eight of the state's metro areas, thanks to new industries, expansions and additions of new tech-based businesses, like IBM.
